We have lost one of our own

Dear friends,

It is with a heavy heart that I must inform you that we have lost a friend and fellow player.

On Friday February 5, 2010, Luisa Walker, whose PC was Fridesgerte, nicknamed Daisy by Kitten, passed away of a pulmonary embolism at St. Luke's Roosevelt Hospital in NYC. It was sudden and she apparently did not suffer, from which we can take small comfort. Luisa was also known in the SCA as Brithwen of Bores Hulle, former Seneschal of the Crown Province of Ostagrdr in the East Kingdom.

Luisa had only recently discovered NERO last year and played at the Hartford Season Closer and the Avendale Season Closer, but from all reports, her mute fighter made quite the impression on those who met her. She was excited for the coming season, and just last week was making plans with her NERO friends as to what she wanted to accomplish this Season.

We have not been able to locate her brother, her only immediate family surviving, so I and other friends in NYC are handling her affairs. We need to raise $3,000.00 for the Funeral Home, as it will take some time to access any assets she may have had, and the Funeral home needs to be paid up front. There will be a Memorial Service in a few weeks, and announcements will follow.

Its a shame really. Her character was really cool. I was going to induct her into the Earth Guard Reserve personally. I hope (and ill leave this nondenominational) that where ever she is. She's happier and can watch both Avendale and Kaurath events with a smile, and that she find happiness and peace.

I am truly sad! She was a fun person to be around and the suddeness really is a shocker.  My heart goes out to the family. She won't soon be forgotten, she was a breath of fresh air with us and I am solid she was like that everywhere she went.

We have set the date for the funeral service of for Luisa Walker, known in the SCA as Lady Brithwen of Bores Hulla, Companion of the Order of the Silver Crescent, former Seneschal of Ostgardr, the Crown Province of the East Kingdom, and known in NERO as Fridesgerte, the Mute Fighter nicknamed “Daisy”.

The service will be held on Tuesday, February 23, at 5:30 P.M., at the Church of the Heavenly Rest, of which she was a member for much of her life.

There will be another, secular, memorial at some time in March or April, on a weekend, to accommodate those who cannot get to a weekday service. We will announce that when it is scheduled.
